Dear Parent/Carer,

Internet Safety

Last week was e-safety week and the children learned about how to stay safe on the internet. One of the issues that arose during the week was the number of children using the internet independently and the number of children using social network sites, such as Facebook. Despite the rules of Facebook stating that you must be 13 years old, there seems to be a growing trend of young children creating accounts. The school computer network blocks social network sites at school but children are still accessing them at home. To try and help protect those children that are on Facebook we have explained to them how to set the privacy settings so that only people they know and trust can see their personal information. To do this click on the ‘account’ menu on the left side of the webpage, and select ‘privacy’, then select friends only for all options.

As technologies change and develop it’s difficult, but important, to have discussions with your children about what they are using on the internet to ensure that they are accessing appropriate materials and keeping themselves safe. Now is the perfect opportunity to have a discussion about what your child is using on the internet and how you can help protect them. For more information go to
http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/ or contact the school.

Website and Online Newsletter

Just a reminder that we have updated topic plans for all classes and important school information available online. Please click on the links on the right hand side of the main school blog to find this information.
Consultation about a new playground on Ridgeway Road

All parents, carers and children are invited to look at and comment on the plans on Tuesday 12th February 2013, BETWEEN 6.00 PM – 8.00 PM. This drop in session will be held in the main Church Foyer of ST JOHN’S CHURCH, LODGE CAUSEWAY, FISHPONDS, BRISTOL BS16 3QG.

After School Clubs

We are now able to offer Ultimate Frisbee and Football for years 1 to 6.  If you are interested, a consent form can be obtained from the school office.  The cost is £2.50 per session.

With regard to after school clubs, I can categorically say that the school never aims to raise funds through after school provision.  In fact, this year, we have made a considerable loss through providing after school activities.

Updated Contacts/Medical Conditions

If your child’s contact details, medical or dietary conditions have changed, could you please let the office know as soon as possible in order for us to update our records.

PE Kit

When your child returns after half term, please ensure they have the correct PE kit – White T-shirt, navy blue or black shorts, plimsolls/daps and a suitable bag with a string loop for hanging.

Team Points

St Mark are last term’s winners and they will be able to wear non-uniform on Friday 22nd February.

Attendance

Welll done to Mrs Ford’s class with an outstanding 100% attendance last week.  They will be able to wear non-uniform on Friday 1st March.

Celebration Assembly

There will be a celebration assembly on Monday, 18th February, where the following children will receive their headteachers award:  Joseph Calloway, Jordan Toy, Irene Raju, Alexander Aliyath, Samuel Masenyama, Patrycia Plewa, Marco La Porta and Abbey George.
